Emergency Tree Removal After Hurricanes: What Insurers Expect
2026-06-18 · 6 min read
When winds die down, the work is just beginning. Here is how emergency removals differ from routine jobs—and what carriers typically look for.
The hours after a hurricane are chaotic: blocked roads, downed lines, neighbors helping neighbors, and tree crews moving from one emergency to the next. Insurers know this—and most policies account for reasonable emergency mitigation—but they still expect certain standards when files are reviewed.
**Emergency removal** usually means addressing an immediate hazard: a tree on a structure, blocking a primary egress, or at risk of secondary failure. **Non-emergency removal** may still be necessary but can sometimes wait for a written scope and adjuster contact without the same urgency.
Insurers generally want to see that emergency charges were:
Proportional to the hazard addressed. Performed by qualified professionals. Supported by photos and a description of immediate danger. Separated from optional or cosmetic work when possible.
If a tree falls on your roof, tarping and stabilizing the tree to prevent further damage may be part of the emergency scope. Full removal, stump grinding, and landscape restoration may be line items reviewed separately depending on policy terms.
Be cautious of door-to-door crews after major storms. Florida has seen its share of unlicensed operators who collect deposits and disappear—or leave homeowners with no documentation for claims. Verify licensing, insurance, and get a signed agreement before work begins.
Arbros Tree Service schedules emergency response with the same documentation standards we use on planned jobs. Even when we are moving fast, we capture photos, define scope, and provide receipts and signed records you can submit.
Storms are stressful. Your tree service should reduce uncertainty, not add to it.
